Chopping Board Cleaning and Oiling

Caring for Your Timber Cutting Board

Your cutting board is crafted from natural timber, which means it will evolve and develop character over time. With the right care, it will remain both beautiful and functional for many years. Follow the guidance below to protect and preserve your board.

Everyday Cleaning

Wash by Hand: Clean your board after use with warm, soapy water. Gently scrub using a soft sponge or brush.
Rinse & Air Dry: Rinse thoroughly and stand the board upright or on its edge to air dry. Always dry out of direct sunlight.
Avoid Soaking: Do not leave your board sitting in water, and never place it in the dishwasher—excess moisture can cause warping or cracking.

Deeper Cleaning & Deodorising

For tougher marks or lingering odours:

Salt & Lemon Clean: Sprinkle coarse salt over the surface and scrub with half a lemon in circular motions. Allow it to sit briefly, then rinse and dry.
Vinegar Refresh: Wipe the board with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water using a clean cloth. This helps sanitise and neutralise odours.

Oiling & Conditioning Your Board

Oiling nourishes the timber, prevents drying, and keeps the surface smooth and protected.

How Often: Oil approximately once a month, or whenever the board looks dry or dull.
What to Use: Use our low-tox conditioning oil or a food-safe alternative such as mineral or grapeseed oil. Avoid standard cooking oils, which can spoil over time.
How to Apply:
– Pour a small amount of oil onto a cotton rag
– Spread evenly over the entire board, including the edges and underside
– Massage the oil into the timber, wiping until it absorbs fully
– Continue until the surface feels silky smooth
– Wipe away any excess before use

Important Care Tips

• Keep your board away from direct heat, air conditioning, and sunlight
• Never submerge in water or place in a dishwasher
• Always store completely dry
